MBS 520: Molecular and Translational Immunology

This advanced immunology course connects the fundamental molecular mechanisms of the immune system to clinical and translational applications. It covers innate and adaptive immunity, antigen recognition, lymphocyte signalling, and the cytokine networks that coordinate immune responses, together with immune regulation and tolerance and their breakdown in autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, allergy and cancer. It then examines immunotherapeutics—including monoclonal antibodies, cell-based therapies and vaccines—and the tools of translational immunology such as immunophenotyping and immune monitoring. Emphasis is placed on critically interpreting immunological data and designing hypothesis-driven research.
